Farmworker Justice helps farmworkers develop effective agendas and speak with an effective voice in Congress, administrative agencies, the courts and the media. Today, we are poised to seize new opportunities and create new realities for farmworkers.
We ask people like you to support our work through tax-deductible donations because the people we serve do not earn enough to pay for our services. An excellent way to support our work is to become a sponsor of our annual award reception.
On the evening of May 6, 2009, we presented the 10th Annual Farmworker Justice Award to Joseph T. Hansen, President of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union. We also awarded the Irma Flores Gonzales Award, for helping Farmworker Justice build its capacity to advance the cause of farmworkers, to Ellen Widess (pictured left) and the Rosenberg Foundation. Finally, we paid tribute to our former Deputy Director Shelley Davis, an extraordinary advocate for farmworkers.
Previous recipients of our annual award are Linda Chavez-Thompson, Rep. Howard Berman, María Echaveste, Dolores Huerta, Sen. Edward Kennedy, Rep. George Miller, Arturo Rodriguez, Baldemar Velasquez, and Raul Yzaguirre. The Irma Flores Gonzales Award has been presented only once before, to Charles Kamasaki and Cecilia Muñoz.
